About the Author
Hoshang Merchant was born in 1947 to a theosophist mother who came from a family of Parsi priests and a businessman father. He 'lost' God at 16 when his parents divorced. His 'recovery' of the past led him into the history of religions, viz., Zoroastrianism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism as well as into his own personal past and that of his young Moslem friend. Trained in the liberal, humanistic, agnostic Western academic tradition, Merchant chooses to work and live in the East.
