Return from Dacca
(Ghazal on the Bangladesh War by Faiz Ahmed Faiz)

We were strangers after all
After all the visits will we be relatives yet?

When will the spotless green of spring be seen yet
The bloodstains wash with how many monsoons after all?

Heartless were words that ended heartache after all?
Unkind the morning ending the mourning night, kind yet!

The heart wanted to speak / no time came to the heartbroken
                yet
Some complaints we would have passed after persuasion
                after all...

What Faiz went to tell throwing his life away for a line after
                all
Remained untold all the tales unfolded after all.
