Blind Lion in the Kabul Zoo

When the bombs fell he was blinded
Then the keeper fled    No food
Yet he kept his high sense of himself
                            and of danger
Today old and toothless like the Kingdom of Kabul
He allows strangers to trespass his domain
To beard him in his own den
His sense of smell is still sharp
Food will soon fall into his trap again.
