Barkas II

The cock crows
The veiled woman comes
                to cut his throat
She will remain veiled
When her rickshaw driver husband
Sells his daughter to the old Arab
For four thousand rupees
Then they will stop singing rainsongs
And watch soap-operas
The men come soaked with rain
On bikes from the gym
Asking for another daughter
                Or a little son.
